The Centre hosts a number of internationally recognised research groups operating in the fields of Archaeology and Art History on the one hand, and the Physical Sciences and Informatics applied to the study of materials and environment on the other (Physical Chemistry, Biology, Mineralogy, Petrography, Computer Science, and Civil and Environmental Engineering). The groups are belonging to six different Departments of the University of Perugia and to some laboratories of the Inter-University National Consortium on Science and Technology of Materials (INSTM). Department of Experimental Medicine and Biochemistry (DMSSB)- Resp.: Prof. Francesco Bistoni; 6. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DICA)- Resp.: Prof. Marzio Rosi; 7. Inter-University National Consortium on Science and Technology of Materials (INSTM - O.U. of Perugia, Firenze, Padova, Milano, and Venezia) - Resp.: Prof. Brunetto Giovanni Brunetti 
The current activity of the Department of Man and Territory of the University of Perugia includes art-historical studies and archaeological excavations in Italy or abroad. The Department of Human and Education Sciences includes art-historical studies on paintings and sculptures frequently associated to scientific and technical investigations on materials. The groups of the scientific Departments (Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Biochemistry and Engineering) are active in the field of research, development and applications of analysis techniques applied to cultural heritage artefacts, within national and international programmes.
